Texas A&M president Mark Welsh’s May online letter to the university community included an update on filling leadership positions and a summary of an employee engagement survey that was conducted in February.

At the time of the May 22nd letter, Welsh wrote that he will announce A&M’s new vice president of student affairs in the next few days. Welsh and the provost have the recommendations from the search committee for the next dean of the pharmacy college. Welsh says finalists for dean of the veterinary college have been completed campus visits and a report is expected soon from that search committee. Another search committee has started accepting applications for A&M’s next vice president of research. And Welsh congratulated new vice provost for faculty affairs Blanca Lupiani. She has been the associate dean for research in A&M’s college of nursing and a professor in the veterinary college.

As for the employee engagement survey, an A&M infograph says almost 3,700 employees completed the survey. That’s a response rate of 29 percent of the nearly 13,000 who work at A&M. 69 percent of respondents feel they have the skills, abilities, and support to fulfill their roles. And 65 percent are willing to go the extra mile to serve A&M’s mission. Four survey questions received the most favorable response at 87 percent each. One is that their work team is committed to delivering high quality services. Another is that their immediate supervisor is accessible when needed. Among the bottom four scores, 20 percent believe decisions are made at the lowest appropriate level and 26 percent believe poor performance is addressed effectively.
