Texas A&M Men’s Tennis Player Kholo Montsi Tabbed SEC Player of the Week

Texas A&M’s Kholo Montsi earned SEC Player of the Week honors following his standout performance in the Aggies’ 4-3 win over the No. 6 Mississippi State Bulldogs, the league announced Wednesday.

Montsi grabbed his first SEC weekly honor of his career after going 2-0 against the Bulldogs. The junior started the match with a tiebreaker win in doubles action over Mario Martinez Serrano and Michal Novansky on court 2. After starting down 1-5, Montsi along with Alex Frusina powered back to force a tiebreaker. The Aggie duo would go on to win the tiebreaker, 7-6(4), to secure the doubles points and the early advantage.

With the match tied at 3-all, it was on Montsi to secure the win for Texas A&M. After dropping the first set to No. 6 Petar Jovanovic, the South African was able to recover and take the last two sets to clinch, 3-6, 7-5, 6-3.

This was Montsi’s second clinch over a then-No. 6 team this season. When the Aggies faced the LSU Tigers, Montsi was the one to clinch a in three-set thriller to secure the upset. The junior is now 10-3 in dual action in singles, with a perfect 4-0 in conference action. Montsi has produced similar success in doubles, with a 11-4 record in dual action.
