Texas A&M Men’s Basketball Unable to Get By Florida

News release from Texas A&M Athletics:

The Texas A&M men’s basketball team was unable overcome the No. 17 Florida Gators, falling 86-67 Saturday night inside Reed Arena.

The first half was a battle of the defenses as both teams went scoreless for nearly five minutes, until the Gators broke the lull with a layup with at the midway point in the half to go up 13-2. Florida’s defense kept the Aggies limited to two points for a greater part of the opening act.

With 8:30 on the clock, Texas A&M (17-6, 7-3 SEC) started its crawl back into contention, scoring 17 of its 19 points. However, it was not enough to keep up with Florida’s offensive explosion that gave the Gators a 30-19 lead at the break.

Florida (17-6, 8-2 SEC) created more distance with a 10-1 run out of the first media timeout of the second half, extending its lead to 52-24. The Aggies responded with an 11-3 run of their own with nine minutes remaining to chip into the difference.

The last five minutes of the game saw back-and-forth baskets between the teams, but the game was already out of reach for the Maroon & White.

Pop Isaacs scored all 17 of this team-best points in the second half, while Marcus Hill also closed the game strong with 15 of his 17 points coming in the second period. Rashaun Agee added 11 rebounds, eight points and five assists.
