News release from Texas A&M Athletics:
FORT WORTH – The Texas A&M men’s basketball team renews its rivalry with former conference foe Texas Tech as the second game of the 2024 US LBM Coast-to-Coast Challenge double-header on Sunday, Dec. 8 at Dickies Arena. The Aggies and Red Raiders are set for a 2 p.m. tipoff after the conclusion of the morning matchup between TCU and Vanderbilt (11:30 a.m. start).
Both games will be televised by the ESPN family of networks. Tickets go on sale to the general public on Friday, Aug. 16 via Ticketmaster.com (Presale begins on Wednesday, Aug. 14).
Texas A&M and Texas Tech met at least twice annually as members of the Southwest Conference and the Big 12 from 1958-2012, but the two teams haven’t clashed on the hardwood in a regular season contest since the Aggies beat the Red Raiders, 47-38, on Valentine’s Day in 2012. In 126 previous meetings since 1941, Texas Tech holds a narrow 64-62 advantage in the series although the Aggies have claimed the last six matchups. The two teams met in a preseason exhibition last year with the Red Raiders tallying an 89-84 decision in the Compete 4 Cause Classic at the Super Pit on the University of North Texas campus in Denton.
Texas A&M is coming off its third straight 20-plus win season and back-to-back NCAA Tournament invitations. The Aggies finished 2023-24 with a 21-15 overall mark while advancing to the second round of the “Big Dance.” Head coach Buzz Williams’ 2024-25 Aggies are mentioned prominently in multiple “way-too-early” top-25 rankings, including No. 11 by CBSSports.com and The Athletic and No. 12 by ESPN.
In addition to the men’s double-header, the USLBM Coast to Coast Classic will feature the Hoopfest Women’s Basketball Classic with South Carolina and TCU tipping off at 6 p.m.
