Texas A&M Men’s Basketball Adds Griffen to Roster

BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION – Texas A&M men’s basketball coach Bucky McMillan announced another key piece to the Aggies’ 2025-26 roster with the addition of former Alabama and Kansas guard Rylan Griffen on Monday.

The 6-6 Griffen, a product of Richardson High School near Dallas, started 20 of 33 games for the Jayhawks in 2024-25 after playing his first two seasons for the Crimson Tide. Griffen has been a mainstay of three NCAA Tournament teams, including as a 33-game starter for Alabama’s 2023-24 Final Four squad.

In 2024-25, Griffen averaged 6.3 points with 41 3-pointers (third-most on team) and contributed 46 assists (fifth-most). His 1.53 assist/turnover ratio was third-best on the team. He had eight double-digit scoring games with a season high of 17 vs. No. 7 Houston (1/25/25).

In 73 games with the Crimson Tide, Griffen totaled 620 points, 216 rebounds and 94 assists while connecting on 41.8% of his field goal attempts. As a starter in 2023-24, Griffen averaged 11.2 points and 3.4 rebounds while hitting 45.4% of his field goal attempts, including 39.2 from beyond the arc. He posted his scoring career high twice with 22 points vs. Missouri (1/16/24) and at No. 17 Kentucky (2/24/24)/

In three collegiate seasons, Griffen has scored 828 points with 285 rebounds and 140 assists while helping Kansas and Alabama to a 76-30 record (.717 winning percentage).

Griffen’s family has deep basketball roots. His father, Ron, played at North Texas from 1988-93 while his grandfather, Ron Thomas, was a standout player at Henderson Country Community College (now Trinity Valley CC) from 1968-70 before going on to average a double-double at Louisville from 1970-72 while leading the Cardinals to the 1972 Final Four.
