Texas A&M Golf Has Two at Augusta National Women’s Amateur

AUGUSTA, Ga. – Texas A&M’s elite amateur golfers Cayetana Fernández García-Poggio and Scarlett Schremmer are set to take part in the prestigious 2025 Augusta National Women’s Amateur (ANWA) April 2-5.
Fernández García-Poggio will be making her third appearance at the championship while Schremmer will be participating for the first time in her career.
Fernández García-Poggio is the No. 33 ranked amateur in the world and appeared in the 2023 and 2024 ANWAs. In 2023, the collegiate sophomore came in solo fourth and followed that up with a share of 20th last year. The Madrid, Spain, native leads the Aggies with a 71.4 stroke average this season and was named the SEC Golfer of the Week after her first collegiate victory at the Charles Schwab Women’s Collegiate.
Schremmer is one of the most decorated junior golfers in the world, ranking No. 80 among all amateurs. The Birmingham, Alabama, native was the No. 1 American golfer in the 2025 class and highlighted the No. 2 ranked recruiting class by the Aggies. The incoming freshman represented the United States in the Junior Solheim Cup and reached the round of 16 at both the U.S. Girls’ Junior and U.S. Women’s Amateur in 2024.
The first 36 holes of the tournament will be played on the Island and Bluff nines at Champions Retreat Golf Club April 2-3. The field will then be cut to the top 30 golfers and ties that will play the final round at Augusta National Golf Club April 5. All 72 amateurs will have the opportunity to play a practice round at Augusta National April 4.
The first and second rounds of the tournament will be televised on Golf Channel from 12:30-2:30 p.m. The final round is scheduled to be broadcast on NBC at 11 a.m.-2 p.m. To learn more about the tournament and keep up with live stats, visit anwagolf.com. Provided she remain an amateur, the Augusta National Women’s Amateur Champion will receive an invitation to the next five Augusta National Women’s Amateurs, the U.S. Women’s Open, the AIG Women’s Open, the Chevron Championship, the Evian Championship and any USGA, R&A and PGA of America amateur championships for which she is eligible for one year.
