News release from Texas A&M Athletics:
NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. – Texas A&M defensive lineman Nic Scourton was named a semifinalist for the Lott IMPACT Trophy Monday afternoon, which is awarded annually to the student-athlete who best exhibits the characteristics of Ronnie Lott by making an IMPACT on and off the field. IMPACT is an acronym for Integrity, Maturity, Performance, Academics, Community and Tenacity.
Scourton is third in the SEC and ranks 10th nationally with 12.5 tackles for loss on the year, 10.0 of which have come in league play. The junior has registered at least 1.0 tackle for loss in seven of the nine games this year. He also comes in at 11th in the league with 5.0 sacks on the season. Scourton put up career numbers in the win over Arkansas as all four of his tackles were for a total of 16 yards lost, while one of his two sacks was a strip sack late in the fourth quarter to seal the victory for the Aggies.
A native of Bryan, Texas, Scourton has played in a key role in helping the Maroon & White rank 25th in county with 63.0 tackles for loss this year and among the top-30 nationally in turnover margin (0.67) and opponent third down conversions (33.1%). Scourton and the Aggies have also held their opponents to 100-or-fewer rushing yards in five games this season, most recently limiting LSU to just 24 yards on the ground.
Finalists for the award will be announced Thursday, Nov. 21. A national voter poll will select the winner of the Lott IMPACT Trophy, which will be presented in Las Vegas on Dec. 9, in conjunction with the National Football Foundation annual awards. The Lott IMPACT Trophy presentation will be hosted by Joel Klatt of Fox Sports.
