Texas A&M Football Has Two Running Backs on Doak Walker Watch List

News release from Texas A&M Athletics:

DALLAS – Texas A&M football’s Le’Veon Moss and Rueben Owens II have been named to the Doak Walker Award Preseason Watch List, the PwC SMU Athletic Forum announced Tuesday. The Doak Walker Award is presented annually to the nation’s top college running back.

Moss returns for his senior season after earning 2024 All-SEC Second Team honors. He ranked No. 2 in the SEC with 6.3 yards per carry and No. 3 with 85.0 rushing yards per game among players who logged 100 or more rushes. A native of Walker, Louisiana, Moss lost just three yards all season, the fewest in the SEC and second-fewest nationally among players with at least 100 carries. Moss rushed for 765 yards and 10 touchdowns on 121 carries before a season-ending injury in the Aggies’ ninth game.

Owens, a redshirt sophomore, garnered 2023 SEC All-Freshman Team honors before suffering a foot injury in the first scrimmage of fall camp in 2024 that sidelined him until week 14. The El Campo, Texas, native rushed three times for 10 yards against Texas, before leading the Aggies with 13 carries for 56 yards in the Las Vegas Bowl against USC. As a rookie, he led true freshmen in the SEC with 743 all-purpose yards, 385 rushing yards and 249 kick return yards. He appeared in all 13 games, making five starts, while registering a rush in each game and a catch in eight outings.

The award is named for SMU’s three-time All-America running back Doak Walker. The PwC SMU Athletic Forum Board of Directors will name ten semifinalists in November, and three finalists, as voted on by the Doak Walker Award National Selection Committee, will be announced in November. The committee will cast a second vote in December to determine the recipient. The National Selection Committee consists of past recipients, former NFL All-Pro and college All-America running backs, media members and selected special representatives. The recipient of the 2025 Doak Walker Award will be announced on The Home Depot College Football Awards Show on December 12, 2025.
