BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION – Texas A&M’s Marcel Reed earned Davey O’Brien National Quarterback of the Week and Shaun Alexander Player of the Week honors, the Maxwell Football Club announced Tuesday morning.
Reed came off the bench midway through the third quarter to lead the Aggies to a second half comeback win over No. 8 LSU, 38-23. The dual-threat quarterback sparked the Aggies by scoring three unanswered rushing touchdowns, finishing the night with 62 yards on nine carries and completed both of passes for 70 yards, including a game-long 54-yard strike.
The Nashville, Tennessee, native made an immediate impact, scoring on his first play of the game and made it back-to-back 8-yard touchdown runs to erase a 10-point deficit and give the Aggies their first lead of the night. Reed found the end zone for a third time on a 4-yard run in the opening minute of the final frame to make it a two score lead.
Reed rushed for multiple scores for the first time in his career and became the first Aggie quarterback to score three-or-more touchdowns in a game since Trevor Knight against Tennessee in 2016. The freshman leads all SEC quarterbacks averaging 5.5 yards per carry, while his 48.0 yards per game and five rushing scores are good for top-10 overall in the league and third among SEC signal callers.
AUGUSTA, Ga. – Texas A&M punter Tyler White has been Named the Ray Guy Award Punter of the Week, the Augusta Sports Council and the Ray Guy Award committee announced Tuesday morning.
White wedged four of his five punts inside the 20, while booting three 50-plus yards in Texas A&M’s victory over LSU, 38-23. The Tigers’ average starting field position following his five punts was their own 13-yard line. White finished the night with an average of 48.4 yards per boot.
The Southlake, Texas, native also garnered SEC Special Teams Player of the Week honors for his performance against LSU, marking the third time he has earned the weekly award this season. On the year White has punted 26 times with an average of 46.3 yards, while sailing nine 50-plus yards and landing 17 inside the 20.
