Texas A&M Football Earns More Weekly Honors

News release from Texas A&M Athletics:

BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION – Texas A&M’s Marcel Reed earned Davey O’Brien National Quarterback of the Week and Shaun Alexander Player of the Week honors, the Maxwell Football Club announced Tuesday morning.

Reed came off the bench midway through the third quarter to lead the Aggies to a second half comeback win over No. 8 LSU, 38-23. The dual-threat quarterback sparked the Aggies by scoring three unanswered rushing touchdowns, finishing the night with 62 yards on nine carries and completed both of passes for 70 yards, including a game-long 54-yard strike.

The Nashville, Tennessee, native made an immediate impact, scoring on his first play of the game and made it back-to-back 8-yard touchdown runs to erase a 10-point deficit and give the Aggies their first lead of the night. Reed found the end zone for a third time on a 4-yard run in the opening minute of the final frame to make it a two score lead.

Reed rushed for multiple scores for the first time in his career and became the first Aggie quarterback to score three-or-more touchdowns in a game since Trevor Knight against Tennessee in 2016. The freshman leads all SEC quarterbacks averaging 5.5 yards per carry, while his 48.0 yards per game and five rushing scores are good for top-10 overall in the league and third among SEC signal callers.
