Texas A&M celebrated the grand opening of its new $42 million Student Services Building on Wednesday.
The building, located on the former site of Bizzell Hall, is home to Residence Life, Offices of the Dean of Student Life, Disability Resources, and Counseling & Psychological Services.
It features 150 offices, 14 open work areas, and 25 meeting/conference rooms.
Kyle Cox ’18 ’20 of El Paso, Texas spoke on behalf of Disability Services.
“My favorite feature of the building is the common area. The common area represents community, collaboration, integration and inclusion,” said Cox.
Bria Perkins’19 of Pensacola, Florida discussed the important of Residence Life and why the building’s location in the heart of campus will benefit students.
“Giving Residence Life and the Offices of the Dean of Student Life a home right in the center of campus is the absolute best thing you could do for students. There is no way for students to get better if they can’t access any of the resources that will help them get better,” said Perkins.
Coleman Posey ’21 of Burnet, Texas says the building was designed with students in mind and each department has space tailored to their needs.
“From the size of the Pride Center and its extra space for programming, to the abundance of work rooms for departments like New Students and Family Programs. No other university has such perfect space,” said Posey.
Sabrina Zuniga ’20 of Plano, Texas volunteers for Texas A&M’s Help Line and discussed Counseling & Psychological Services.
“A&M has now moved those resources to the center of campus to really make a statement. To say we are here with you, we are ready to receive you, we are ready to walk with you, we are ready to support you in whatever you that you need,” said Zuniga.
