BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION – The No. 1 Texas A&M baseball team (38-6, 15-6) picked up its sixth straight series win, all of which have come against ranked opponents, Saturday afternoon as they split a doubleheader with No. 17 Georgia (31-12, 10-11) from Olsen Field at Blue Bell Park.
In game one, the Aggies overcame a nine-run deficit in the first inning to run-rule the Bulldogs in seven, 19-9. The comeback win matched the 1998, 2012 and 2022 squads for the largest in program history. In game two, a five-run fifth by Georgia doomed the Maroon & White as they fell 5-4.
Braden Montgomery, Jace LaViolette and Travis Chestnut each recorded five RBI on the afternoon to power the Texas A&M offense. Chestnut, LaViolette and Ted Burton also registered two homers apiece, with both of Burton’s and Chestnut’s coming in game one. Overall, the Aggies hit .348 with seven homers, 13 walks and 23 RBI in the two contests.
Game One: Aggies 19, Bulldogs 9
Shane Sdao earned the win in relief as the sophomore delivered four scoreless frames to go along with four strikeouts. Fellow relievers Brock Peery (1.0) and Josh Stewart (0.2) also recorded scoreless appearances.
Chestnut (3-for-5) and Montgomery (3-for-3) powered the offensive attack for the Aggies as the duo combined for three homers and 10 RBI in the win. Caden Sorrell followed with a 3-for-3 performance and three RBI. Burton rounded out the multi-hit performers for the Maroon & White, finishing the game one 2-for-4 with a pair of homers.
Overall, the Aggies pounded out 15 hits, 10 of which were for extra bases, to go along with nine walks. Texas A&M also belted a season-high six home runs on the day, falling one shy of tying the program’s single game record. Eight of the nine batters in the lineup recorded a hit and scored a run for the Maroon & White.
After the Bulldogs plated nine runs courtesy of three homers in the top half of the first, the Aggies responded with an eight-spot and three homers of their own in the bottom half. Following a Gavin Grahovac walk, LaViolette lifted his 21st homer of the year off the batter’s eye in center. The sophomore’s two-run blast left the bat at 105 mph and traveled 437 feet.
Three batters later, Burton picked up where he left off last night as the senior ripped a two-run shot over the wall in left center to cut the deficit to 9-4. Following an RBI double from Sorrell, Chestnut trimmed the deficit to one, 9-8, with a three-run homer off the scoreboard in left.
The Maroon & White escaped a bases loaded jam in the top half of the third and then evened the score, 9-9, in the bottom half on a bases-loaded RBI walk from Montgomery.
In the sixth, the Aggies jumped in front and broke the game with another eight-run frame that featured only three hits, two of which left the yard. With the bases loaded, Sorrell put Texas A&M in front for the first time with a two-run single through the left side. An RBI fielder’s choice from LaViolette stretched the advantage to 12-9 before Montgomery belted a grand slam over the batter’s eye in center. The long ball marked the 23rd of the year for the junior and traveled 450 feet.
Burton followed with his second homer of the day to extend the advantage to 17-9. The multi-homer game marked the second in a row for the senior.
In the seventh, Chestnut walked it off for the Maroon & White as the senior lifted a two-run homer over the wall in left. The multi-homer game marked the first of Chestnut’s career.
Inside the Box Score
The Aggies recorded 16 hits and drew nine walks.
The Maroon & White’s six homers set a new season high.
Eight of the nine batters recorded a hit and scored a run in the win.
Sorrell and Chestnut combined to go 6-for-8 with eight RBI from the 8-9 spot in the lineup.
Sorrell also crossed the plate a game-high four times and walked twice.
Montgomery went 3-for-3 with two walks and five RBI.
Burton scored three times and drove in three runs.
LaViolette also plated three runs on the afternoon.
Grahovac drew a pair of walks in the win.
Game Two: Aggies 4, Bulldogs 5
Chris Cortez suffered the loss after allowing three runs on three hits over an inning of work. Starter Justin Lamkin earned a no-decision after a strong start that saw him deliver 5.2 scoreless frames of one-hit baseball. The sophomore also struck out seven.
LaViolette put together his third three-hit performance of the year as the sophomore went 3-for-4 with a homer and two RBI in the contest. Camarillo (2-for-4) and Montgomery (2-for-5) also recorded a multi-hit game for the Aggies.
After Jackson Appel opened the scoring in the first with an RBI single, LaViolette extended the lead to 2-0 with a solo homer to right center. The long ball marked the sophomore’s 22nd of the year and 43rd of his career, which is tied for the fourth-most in program history.
After the Bulldogs jumped in front 5-2 in the seventh with a five-run frame, the Maroon & White responded with a pair of runs in the bottom half to cut the deficit to 5-4. An RBI single from LaViolette and a sac fly from Appel accounted for the scoring in the frame.
In the eighth, the Aggies put the tying run on second with no outs but were unable to even the score. The last six outs by the Maroon & White were all via the strikeout.

The Aggies totaled nine hits and drew four walks.
Three batters recorded a multi-hit night for the Maroon & White.
As a staff, Texas A&M struck out eight batters.
Kaiden Wilson and Weston Moss each made an appearance in relief.
Brock Peery (0.1) and Evan Aschenbeck (2.0) recorded scoreless appearances.
Game Notes
With the split, the Aggies lead the all-time series 15-8 and are 10-2 at home against the Bulldogs.
The weekend attendance of 22,809 marked the second-largest crowd in Olsen Field history.
In game one, the Maroon & White became the fourth club in program history to overcome a nine-run deficit.
Burton logged his second consecutive multi-homer performance in game one.
The senior also pushed his on-base streak to 20 games.
Camarillo has now reached base safely in 30 straight contests.
Montgomery stretched his on-base streak to 26 games.
Hayden Schott has now reached base safely in 17 in a row.
