Texas A&M Baseball Takes Midweek Matchup with Texas Southern

BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION – The No. 14 Texas A&M baseball team picked up a 6-2 victory over Texas Southern Wednesday night in midweek action from Olsen Field at Blue Bell Park.

Gavin Lyons earned the win in relief after dealing three no-hit frames to go along with a strikeout. The appearance marked the first of the freshman’s career. Starter Aiden Sims earned a no-decision after allowing two runs over four innings of work.

The Aggies (7-5) opened the scoring in the first behind an RBI groundout from Gavin Kash that scored Kaeden Kent, who reached on a walk. Terrence Kiel II followed with an RBI single up the middle that plated Wyatt Henseler, who doubled to right.

In the fourth, the Tigers (4-9) responded with a pair of solo homers to even the score at 2-2.

Texas A&M regained the lead in the bottom half on a bases-loaded RBI walk from Jace LaViolette and added to its advantage in the fifth with an RBI single from Hayden Schott.

The Aggies struck again in the sixth with a pair of runs to up their lead to 6-2. Kent plated the first run of the frame with an RBI double to left and later scored on a LaViolette sacrifice fly.
