No. 22 Texas A&M tallied 12 hits in seven innings to run-rule UIW, 11-1, in midweek action Tuesday afternoon from Olsen Field at Blue Bell Park.
Juan Vargas (1-0) earned the win and faced the minimum through 3.0 innings as the starter. The Panama City, Panama, native induced six pop-ups, one groundout and struck out two to retire the Cardinals in order. Gavin Lyons followed in relief, allowing one run in 2.0 innings. Cole Hubert entered in the sixth inning, allowing two hits and striking out two.
Josh Stewart earned his first career save after entering with the tying run at the plate with two outs. The righty punched the batter out on three pitches and went on to strike out the side in the top half of the seventh to complete his dominant outing.
Jake Duer paced the Aggies offensively, going 3-for-3 at the plate with a 389-foot solo home run, three RBI and two walks. Gavin Grahovac added three RBI, including a pair on a two-out double off the right field wall. Jorian Wilson blasted his second home run of the season in the seventh inning, travelling 383 feet with a 106 mph exit velocity and a 41-degree launch angle. The freshman outfielder ended his night 2-for-4 at the dish with two RBI and a run scored.
