HUNTSVILLE, Texas – The Texas A&M baseball team cruised to its third straight win Tuesday night, run-ruling Sam Houston, 14-1, in seven innings at Don Sanders Stadium.
The Aggies (17-15) scored a run in five consecutive innings and tallied 14 hits on the evening. Wyatt Henseler (3-for-3) and Caden Sorrell (3-for-3) powered the offensive attack for the Maroon & White as the duo each reached base safely in all five plate appearances to go along with a combined three RBI. Bear Harrison, Terrence Kiel II and Ben Royo also logged multi-hit performances in the victory for Texas A&M.
Caden McCoy (1-1) picked up the win in relief after tossing a scoreless inning to go along with two strikeouts. Clayton Freshcorn, Luke Jackson and Brad Rudis also recorded scoreless outings in relief for the Maroon & White. Starter Gavin Lyons received a no-decision after allowing a run in 2.2 innings of work to go along with two strikeouts.
After the Bearkats (8-25) opened the scoring in the first with a solo homer, the Aggies responded in the third with a pair of runs courtesy of RBI singles from Henseler and Harrison.
The Maroon & White batted around and plated five in the fourth to stretch their advantage to 7-1. With the bases loaded, Sorrell moved the Aggies station-to-station with an RBI single. After Harrison followed with his second RBI single of the evening, Kaeden Kent picked up the third RBI of the frame with a sacrifice fly to center.
Blake Binderup capped off the five-run fourth with a two-run double to left-center.
Sam Houston looked to respond in the bottom half as they loaded the bases with two outs but Freshcorn entered in relief and ended the threat with a strikeout.
Texas A&M tacked on two more runs in the fifth to push its lead to 9-1. Kiel came around to score on a single courtesy of a pair of Bearkat errors, while Sorrell accounted for the other run with an RBI double down the right field line.
The Aggies added a run in sixth on a wild pitch and four in the seventh to make the final 14-1. In the seventh, Matt Bergevin, Kent, Royo and Hayden Schott each tallied an RBI.
