News release from Texas A&M Athletics:

HOUSTON – The No. 1 Texas A&M baseball team belted a season-high five home runs en route to a 14-4 run-rule victory over Rice in seven innings Sunday night to close out the Astros Foundation College Classic from Daikin Park.

The Aggies (6-4) tallied 12 hits on the evening and four different batters recorded a multi-hit game. Junior Kaeden Kent led the power surge with the first multi-homer game of his career, finishing 2-for-4 at the plate with three RBI. Freshman Terrence Kiel II put together a strong performance as the rookie went 3-for-4 at the dish to go along with three RBI. Transfer Gavin Kash registered his top performance in the Maroon & White as the senior finished 2-for-2 with a homer, two walks and three runs scored.

Starter Myles Patton battled through five innings of work to earn the win, improving to 2-0 on the season. The left-hander allowed three runs through the first two frames but settled in to retire the final nine batters he faced on the night. Patton also struck out seven batters in the victory.

The Owls (2-8) opened the scoring in the first with a two-run double off the wall in center and later added to their lead in the second with a solo homer.

Kent answered in the third with a two-run blast to right that traveled 375 feet and left the bat at 102 mph. In the fourth, Kash evened the game at 3-3 with an opposite field solo home run to the Crawford Boxes in left. The senior’s first long ball of the season traveled 359 feet and left the bat at 101.3 mph.

Texas A&M put up another crooked number in the sixth as six more runs came across to score, expanding the lead to 12-3. Following three consecutive walks to open the frame, Kiel pushed a single through the left side to plate two. Jace LaViolette drove in the third run of the frame with an infield single before Hayden Schott lifted a three-run homer into the Crawford Boxes in left. Schott’s homer was his second of the season and traveled 337 feet.

Kiel upped the advantage to 13-3 in the seventh with an RBI single that plated Kash, who reached on a walk. On the play, a throwing error by the Owls allowed Jacob Galloway, who also reached on a walk, to score as the lead stretched to 14-3.
