NASHVILLE – The Texas A&M baseball team fell in the series finale at No. 22 Vanderbilt, 8-5, Saturday afternoon at Hawkins Field.
After the Commodores (19-5, 4-2) opened the scoring in the third with a two-run homer, the Aggies (11-12, 0-6) answered with a pair of runs in the third to even the score at 2-2. Gavin Kash plated Jace LaViolette, who reached on a ground-rule double, with an RBI single and later came around to score on a Hayden Schott RBI groundout.
The Maroon & White took the lead in the fifth courtesy of a solo homer to left center from Wyatt Henseler. The long ball marked the third baseman’s fifth of the season and 59th of his career.
In the seventh, Vanderbilt posted six runs on five hits to jump back in front 8-3. Following a strikeout to start the frame, six consecutive batters reached base and came around to score for the Commodores.
Texas A&M loaded the bases with one out in the ninth and was able to push across a pair of runs via an RBI single from Terrence Kiel II and an RBI groundout from Kash, cutting the deficit to 8-5. The Aggies later brought the go-ahead run to the plate with two outs but a strikeout ended the rally and the contest.
Starter Myles Patton received a no-decision after allowing two runs over 4.1 innings. The lefty also struck out four batters on the afternoon. Reliever Weston Moss was handed the loss after surrendering two runs in two innings of work.
