Teen Drivers Killed in Huntsville Police Chase

HUNTSVILLE, Texas (AP) _ Officials say a 14-year-old driver died and a 13-year-old passenger was injured after their car slammed into a pole during a high-speed chase with a state trooper in Southeast Texas.

Texas Department of Public Safety spokesman Tom Vinger says the trooper tried to stop the car early Tuesday, but it sped away.

Vinger says the car flipped shortly thereafter and hit a pole in Huntsville, killing Kolin Johnson of Conroe. Passenger Gustavo Casillas, also of Conroe, was taken to Memorial Hermann Hospital in Houston where spokeswoman Jennifer Hart listed him in fair condition Tuesday night.

Vinger didn’t know why the trooper tried to pull the car over. DPS Sgt. Terry Barnhill says car was traveling at over 100 mph when it crashed.

Preliminary reports say the teens weren’t wearing seatbelts.
