FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) _ The Fort Worth medical examiner has ruled that the death of a mentally ill man after he was stunned by a police Taser is a homicide.
Police have said the family of 24-year-old Michael Patrick Jacobs Jr. called for help one day in April, saying he was causing problems. Police have said officers used the Taser after he became combative, but then he had difficulty breathing after he was handcuffed. He was pronounced dead at a hospital.
The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office report issued Thursday said Jacobs was stunned with the Taser twice — the first time for 49 seconds and the second time for 5 seconds.
The report said an autopsy showed no traces of alcohol or drugs in his system and no signs of heart or lung diseases.
