WHITNEY, Texas (AP) _ A man is dead and two deputies are wounded after a domestic disturbance call to a home near a Central Texas lake climaxed in a shootout.
Hill County Sheriff Jeffrey Lyon says a deputy approached the home at Lake Whitney on Wednesday afternoon when an armed man emerged and opened fire, wounding the deputy in the shoulder.
Lyon tells KWTX-TV (http://bit.ly/tysrKA) of Waco the man returned to the house and barricaded himself with his ex-wife inside. The woman escaped, and another deputy approached to make contact. The man said he’d come out shooting and did, wounding the deputy in the leg before return fire wounded the suspect in upper torso.
Lyon says the deputies were treated for their wounds and released from a Whitney hospital. No identities have been released.
