Sudden Stop Injures Austin Schoolchildren

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) _ Emergency personnel in Austin say 11 students required medical attention after being injured when a school bus made an abrupt stop.

Lt. Jeff Hampton says police are seeking to interview the driver to find out why the bus made the unexplained stop Wednesday morning en route to Hillcrest Elementary School.

The injured youngsters were transported to Dell Children’s Medical Center. Hospital chief of staff Pat Crocker says the children suffered bumps and bruises.

Austin-Travis County emergency personnel say the school bus carried more than 70 students. The bus is part of the Del Valle Independent School District.
