Once the weather improves, crews from the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) will be installing 75 mile per hour speed limit signs in Brazos County.
Once these signs are installed the new speed limit will be in effect.
Brazos County maintenance crews will start along Highway 6 from the Robertson/Brazos County Line to the Grimes/Brazos County Line. The work begins at Benchley and goes south. Once the southbound lanes are complete they will work on the northbound lanes.
Next will be installation of signs on Highway 47 from Highway 21 to FM 60.
Then signs will be installed along Highway 21 from the Brazos River to the west Bryan city limits.
A TxDOT news release states the 82nd Texas Legislature passed and the Governor signed House Bill 1353 which allows TxDOT to establish 75 mph speed limits on Texas highways providing speed studies showing it can be done safely.
According to TxDOT, Texas’ economic strength depends on the efficient and safe movement of people and goods. These new speed limits increase highway efficiency while maintaining the safety of the transportation system.
TxDOT also reminds motorists to drive to the conditions, buckle up, and put down the cell phones.
