Special Test of Code Maroon Friday

If you’re signed up for A&M’s Code Maroon emergency alert system, you should receive a test notification Friday.

That’s two weeks earlier than usual.

The reason, according to Associate Vice President Charley Clark, is a major upgrade in hardware and software.

That will allow Code Maroon to operate in a virtual environment and sets the foundation for new features in the future.

Now in development is a Code Maroon smartphone application that where alerts will be received faster than text messages.

Also down the road, the upgrades will also allow an expansion of the number of desktop computer popup alerts from 10,000 to 50,000.

Code Maroon has enrollment of more than 52,000 A&M students and faculty, and there are more than 18,000 Twitter followers.

WTAW’s Bill Oliver visits with Charley Clark.
