Access to the southbound freeway from Highway 21 in Bryan was blocked for more than 15 hours by a semi trailer hauling concrete.
Bryan police report the southbound frontage road was reopened around 1:30 Wednesday morning.
The delay was due to finding a heavy duty wrecker that could lift the weight of the overturned trailer.
The driver was ticketed for turning when unsafe and not having a CDL license.
In early 2025, construction starts on three new water wells to serve College Station. That follows the city council awarding a $51.5 million dollar contract. City manager Bryan Woods said the timing of the project comes before state regulations change that requires more land to drill water wells. The wells will be located on 300 acres the city of College Station owns in northwest Brazos County near Sandy Point Road and OSR highway. Responding to a council question, Woods said that property won’t be used for other purposes in part due to security concerns associated with the wells. Responding to another council question, Woods said staff always consider teaming up with the city of Bryan and the Wellborn and Wickson Creek utility districts. The construction contract is part of a project of more than $69 million dollars. Funding comes from the city’s water capital improvement projects fund. Construction is expected to be completed, weather permitting, is August of 2028. For the second and third times this month, there are public meetings involving the future “inner loop east” highway that will be built to the east of Bryan/College Station. Opponents to the highway are meeting Wednesday (November 20) from 6:30 until 8 p.m. at the Bryan High School blue campus auditorium. A public speaker at Tuesday’s (November 19) Brazos County commission meeting called on the commissioners court to get their own citizen input. John Book brought up that an open house held earlier this month by the Texas department of transportation provided “misinformation or miscommunication” about the project.
