CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas (AP) _ The superintendent of a struggling South Texas school district has been suspended after he was arrested for allegedly possessing marijuana.
The Corpus Christi Caller-Times reports (http://bit.ly/2bOdNZp ) Premont school district Superintendent Eric Ramos was put on paid administrative leave Friday following his arrest.
The Duval County Sheriff’s Office says Ramos was charged with suspicion of possession of less than two ounces of marijuana following a routine traffic stop Thursday evening.
Ramos told the newspaper in a text message he was “completely ashamed and embarrassed” by his arrest.
The district, in a rural farming community about 70 miles southwest of Corpus Christi, has been in danger of losing its accreditation due to poor academic performance.
Last month, the district found out it had met academic standards for the first time since 2011.
