The third time was the charm for local authorities looking for a Benchley area man wanted for stealing $17,000 dollars of jewelry belonging to his mother.

Wednesday night’s search took almost five hours and involved a half dozen Brazos County deputies.

Sheriff Chris Kirk says they had to search two homes in a wooded area and make a second arrest before finding 29 year old Larry Lewis Jr. and his two children.

Kirk says after deputies talked to the suspect on his cell phone, which led Lewis to surrender. The children are now living with relatives.

The sheriff says they went out after College Station Police and prosecutors were unable to arrest Lewis on the felony theft charge.

Kirk says the landowner where Lewis was staying, Regulo Botello, was arrested for interfering with the search. He and Lewis are out of jail after posting bond.
