Slaughter accepts San Angelo job

It’s official. A&M Consolidated head football coach and athletics director Jim Slaughter is leaving after 11 season coaching the Tigers. And just like the found him in 2000 as a top administrator in Farmer’s Branch, he’s leaving the sidelines again, this time to be Executive Director of Athletics for San Angelo School. Slaughter’s name was recommended and approved at the San Angelo School board meeting last night.

Slaughter started his head coaching career in San Angelo at Lake View. At Consol his teams went 80-45 and reached the playoff nine times in 11 years, reaching the state 5A semi-finals in 2005. Slaughter leaves with a career coaching record of 206-107-1, including his time at Corpus Christi Carroll and Lufkin.

The new hire for Consol will have added interest as the landscape is bout to change in the CSISD. College Station High School opens in August 2012 and it’s still yet to be decided what classification they will compete and if enrollment numbers then will cause Consolidated to drop in classification from 5A.
