Texas A&M baseball had six student-athletes garner All-SEC honors, including a league-best four representatives on the First Team, as announced by the league office Monday afternoon.
Gavin Grahovac became the second Aggie in program history to be named SEC Scholar-Athlete of the Year, holding a 3.853 cumulative GPA as a senior-level sport management major. Grahovac earned his Aggie Ring this semester upon his completion of 90 credit hours.
The Maroon & White’s four selections to the All-SEC First Team include Clayton Freshcorn, Grahovac, Chris Hacopian and Caden Sorrell. Both Grahovac and Sorrell also earned nods to the SEC All-Defensive Team. Nico Partida and Jorian Wilson rounded out Texas A&M’s All-SEC selections, garnering Freshman All-SEC distinctions.
Grahovac has made starts in all 52 games this season, owning a .351/.436/.725 slash line with 19 home runs and 71 RBI, which is tied for 11th nationally. The righty slugger leads the squad with 70 runs scored and 74 hits. In SEC play, Grahovac is atop the conference ranks in runs scored (40), RBI (43), home runs (13) and slugging percentage (.754). His 43 RBI and 92 total bases in SEC play set new program records since the Aggies’ inaugural season in the league in 2013. With 44 career home runs in the Maroon & White, Grahovac sits at sixth on the program’s all-time leaderboard.
Freshcorn became the third relief pitcher in program history to receive All-SEC honors after logging a 3-2 record and a conference-best 12 saves. In 24 appearances, the right-hander owns a 2.42 ERA and 1.05 WHIP to go along with 50 strikeouts to just five walks. Nine of Freshcorn’s 12 saves were outings of multiple innings pitched. A member of the NCBWA Stopper of the Year Midseason Watch List, Freshcorn’s seven saves in conference play are tied for the most in the SEC.
Hacopian has made 37 starts between second base and designated hitter throughout his lone season in Aggieland. The Potomac, Maryland, native boasts a .315/.407/.555 slash line to compliment 33 RBI, eight doubles and nine home runs. The righty slugger has started in all 29 SEC games, registering a .319 batting average with 25 RBI, seven doubles and seven homers. Hacopian registered 11 multi-hit performances in conference play and reached base safely in each of the last 16 SEC games.
Sorrell is amid a career season in his junior campaign, logging a .343/.434/.768 slash line in 50 starts. The lefty leads the club with 17 doubles, 23 home runs, 74 RBI, 10 stolen bases and 159 total bases. His 23 long balls on the year are tied for the fifth-most in a single season and mark the eighth 20-homer season in program history, while also ranking 11th nationally. The 74 RBI on the season rank seventh in the country and are ninth-most in club history. In Texas A&M’s all-time record books, Sorrell ranks fifth with 46 home runs and 10th with 149 RBI.
Partida has started 44 games at third base for the Maroon & White, slashing .317/.418/.585 with 41 RBI, 41 runs scored, eight doubles and 12 home runs. The Manvel, Texas, native has notched 16 multi-hit and 12 multi-RBI performances this season. In SEC play, Partida has a pair of doubles and seven home runs while driving in 19 RBI.
Since earning the role of starting right fielder in late March, Wilson has become a key contributor to the Aggie lineup. The freshman slugger has appeared in 40 games while making starts in 32, slashing .302/.373/.667 with six doubles, two triples and 12 home runs. Wilson has driven in 32 RBI and has scored 35 runs. Of his 11 multi-hit performances this season, nine have come in conference play. In 23 SEC games, Wilson owns .333 batting average with seven homers, 20 RBI and 24 runs.
Texas A&M begins its SEC Tournament slate in Hoover, Alabama, as the No. 3 seed Friday night against a to-be-determined opponent. First pitch from Hoover Metropolitan Stadium is slated for approximately 30 minutes after the conclusion of the prior 3 PM contest.
