COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Led by home runs from seniors Nicole Morgan, Cassie Tysarczyk and Jenna Stark on Senior Day, the No. 24 Texas A&M Softball team (35-20) ended the regular season with an 8-2 win over Oklahoma State (26-26), Saturday at the Aggie Softball Complex.
The senior class plated all eight runs for the win before the team honored its eight seniors after the game. The contest vs. OSU marked the final home game for the seniors, who were responsible for seven hits, two walks, and all eight runs scored on the day.
Oklahoma State got on the board first with a lone run in the top of the second inning. The runner scored from third on error to give the Cowgirls an early 1-0 lead.
The lead didn’t last long as Morgan led off in the bottom of the inning with a solo shot over left field to tie the ballgame. The blast was the 14th of the season for Morgan and the 47th of her illustrious career. Morgan was 2-for-3 on the day with three RBI, two runs scored and a walk.
Texas A&M took a 3-1 lead in the third when Tysarczyk crushed a home run that flew across Olsen Blvd. and scored a pair of runs for the Aggies. Senior Emily Albus scored on the play after drawing a leadoff walk.
Tysarczyk picked up her eighth outfield assist of the season in the top of the third when she tossed a runner at second after she attempted to stretch a single into a double. Offensively, the Aggie right fielder was 2-for-4 with three runs scored and two RBI.
An RBI groundout allowed the Cowgirls’ final run of the day cross home plate in the top of the fifth and narrowed Texas A&M’s advantage to 3-2. The run was unearned due to an error in the half-inning that would have made the ground out the final out of the frame.
Looking for insurance runs, the Aggies came out swinging in the fifth inning and stretched the lead to 6-2. Tysarczyk reached on a fielding error and took second on a walk from Morgan in time for Stark’s bomb. The long ball topped the fence in right-centerfield and hit the scoreboard as it left the park. Stark was 2-for-3 against the Cowgirls, plating three runs and scoring one.
Morgan ended the scoring spree with a two-RBI base hit up the middle in the bottom of the sixth. The laser skipped into centerfield and allowed Garza and Tysarczyk to run home for the final two runs of the day. Garza reached on an infield single and Tysarczyk hammered a double to left field to get on base.
The senior offensive production was aided by redshirt junior Rachel Fox’s complete-game effort in the circle. The righty (13-10) gave up just one earned run on eight hits and a walk while fanning five batters. OSU starter Simone Freeman (21-15) allowed five earned runs on five hits and three walks through five innings for the loss.
The Aggies will learn their fate in the NCAA Tournament on Sunday, May 11 during the NCAA Softball Selection Show on ESPNU when Regional sites and the field of 64 are announced. To learn more about Texas A&M softball, log on to AggieAthletics.com and follow @AggieSoftball on Twitter.
