Somehow the SEC rumor-mill got started yesterday big time, so much that word got out that A&M was planning an afternoon press conference. It wasn’t true and never was but evidently the rumor was so persistent that University spokesman Jason Cook asked Aggie Assistant AD Alan Cannon to call his main media list to tell them it wasn’t true and that no press conference was planned coming up.
Further proof of the obvious, that if and SEC announcement is made, it will happen when President Bowen Loftin is ready to to make it and anything you hear before that is only guesswork.
Meanwhile, the Dallas Morning News reports that SMU President Gerald Turner has told them that they are publicly pushing to join a BCS Conference and specifically the Mustangs have approached the Big 12.
SMU has been a member of Conference USA since the Southwest Conference disbanded in 1995.
