SA Gas Line Rupture Forces Evacuations

SAN ANTONIO (AP) _ A ruptured natural gas line in San Antonio led to a towering fire today that could be seen for miles and melted some nearby vehicles.

No injuries were reported. The fire was put out by midday.

The blaze near Camp Bullis at a road construction site forced neighboring businesses to evacuate and shut off utilities in a radius upward of one mile.

Fire Chief Charles Hood told the San Antonio Express-News that the fire started when a trenching machine cut a 30-inch gas main.
