Ruzickova Finishes Fourth, Aggies Tie for Fifth

SAN ANTONIO, Texas – Sparked by senior Katerina Ruzickova’s fourth place finish, the Texas A&M women’s golf team tied for fifth at the Alamo Invitational at the Briggs Ranch Golf Course, hosted by UTSA.

Ruzickova (71-70-70=211) claimed her 11th career top-five finish at five-under par, all three rounds in San Antonio were under par. The Czech native’s 211 three-round total ranks fifth best all-time at the Alamo Invitational. Lindsay Gahm of LSU claimed individual honors with a tournament record 11-under performance.

“Kat really performed well throughout the tournament,” Texas A&M head coach Trelle McCombs said. “She knew what she needed to do when she stepped up to the tee box and executed.”

As a team Texas A&M (281-286-293=860) tied for fifth, the team’s 860 stroke total ranks as the seventh-lowest team total in tournament history. Oklahoma (278-286-276=840) claimed the tournament title, followed by LSU (285-279-284=848), Arkansas (279-283-289=851), Florida (280-292-283=855), A&M and UTSA (285-286-289=860) to complete the top five.

“Today was a different day for us in several ways, especially when you count the number of birdies we left on the course,” McCombs said. “Despite leaving a couple strokes out there today I am really proud of the progress the team is making and I look forward to watching them progress in the off season.”

Completing the field in San Antonio were TCU (289-285-292=866), Texas State (292-292-286=870), Louisville (290-291-294=872), Tulane (290-291-294=875), SMU (287-291-300=878), Florida State (289-301-293=883), Baylor (297-295-297=889), Texas (295-304-294-893) and Tennessee (290-304-305=899).

Filling out the A&M lineup were seniors Natalie Reeves (70-74-73=217, t24th), Janell Lysack (76-69-74=2519, t32nd) and Chelsea Mocio (72-73-76=221, t42nd) to go along with freshman Andrea Jonama (68-81-77=226, t61st).

Competing as an individual, sophomore Alex Neal (73-82-82=237) finished in 77th.

The Aggies will take a break from competition for a couple months; the maroon and white will resume play in the spring at the FSU Match-Up in Tallahassee Feb. 14-16.
