Runaway Horse Scares MLK Parade Crowd

DALLAS (AP) _ A runaway horse threw a scare into a crowd watching a Dallas parade marking the birthday of the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr.

The riderless horse broke away from its owner about 11:30 a.m. Monday and galloped down side streets before returning to the parade route. Police Lt. Scott Walton says two people suffered minor injuries and once vehicle was damaged before the horse was reined in and hitched to an iron fence.

Meanwhile, Texans elsewhere joined other Americans on Monday in honoring King’s memory 44 years after the civil rights leader was assassinated.

In Houston, organizers held their 34th annual MLK day parade and day of service. San Antonio saw its 25th MLK day celebration. And other Texas communities held weekend MLK events, such as San Angelo’s Gospel Fest.
