Rockdale Couple Killed in West Texas Plane Crash

DICKENS, Texas (AP) _ Three are dead in a fiery South Plains crash of a vintage airplane.

Federal Aviation Administration spokesman Lynn Lunsford said Monday the accident in Dickens County killed the pilot and his parents.

The Texas Department of Public Safety identified the dead as the 40-year-old pilot, Jake Jenkins of Lubbock, and 71-year-old Kirby Dan Jenkins and 68-year-old Dorothy Jenkins, both of Rockdale.

DPS Cpl. John Gonzalez said driver’s licenses found on board helped with the identification.

Lunsford told The Associated Press the 1946 Stinson 108 was en route from Dickens to Rockdale, about 370 miles to the southeast, when it went down in a field. Lunsford says the property owner came upon the still-smoldering wreckage of the single-engine aircraft around 1 p.m. Sunday.

The cause of the crash is sought.
