There’s more to Thursday’s College Station City Council meeting than voting whether to annex Wellborn.

The council is being asked to remove the 275 square foot building on the parking lot of Chimney Hill shopping center. Until last September, it was the home of a popular frozen custard stand. Shake’s closed after the owner said it was going to cost too much to replace the failing air conditioning system. City staff is recommending demolition because there was only one bid to reopen. While the proposed lease rate was lower than the last occupant, the bidder was aware they would be responsible for any upkeep, including the a/c.
Another item is spending city money related to the new Scott and White hospital. Scott and White has asked if city electrical lines can be buried for appearance purposes, and if the city would pay for boring underground. The cost, estimated at $77,000 dollars, would come from the city’s economic development fund and the city’s electric department would do the work. Scott and White will pay for materials and labor.
And in an item dealing with Consolidated High School, city staff and school administrators have agreed to remove one of two school resource officers. That person would be transferred to the PD unit dealing with gang intelligence and activity.
All three items are part of the meeting’s consent agenda unless a councilmember elects to remove something for individual consideration.
