The College Station city council has rezoned property along the freeway across from Central Park.
The council voted unanimously for the general commercial zone after changing the land use designation in the city’s comprehensive plan.
John Nichols acknowledged the surrounding residential developments in front of The Science Park property, located along the northbound service road between Emerald Parkway and Raintree Drive.
While the council’s vote was unanimous, Blanche Brick predicted future traffic congestion after the property is developed getting in and out from the frontage road.
Staff recommendations include turning lanes into both entrances of the property off the frontage road.
James Benham addressed the objection of a nearby homeowner who was concerned about increased traffic.
Behind the new retail space, remains property that is zoned light industrial.
