Remembering Former College Station City Councilwoman Jana McMillan

A former member of the College Station city council has died.

A city spokesman says Jana McMillan passed away from cancer at the age of 64.

After winning a special election to finish serving an unexpired term between November 2010 and May 2011, she decided not to run for a full term.

McMillan later became involved in promoting workforce education. A member of the Brazos County workforce education steering committee, Bobby Gutierrez, says McMillan planted the seed that changed the committee’s focus from a partnership with Blinn College to helping the Bryan school district buy the property for an expanded career and technology education center.

Gutierrez says McMillan was also instrumental in the creation of the Brazos County Hispanic Republicans organization.

Callaway-Jones funeral and cremation center is in charge of arrangements. A celebration of life will be held Saturday, January 5, at 2 p.m. at the Callaway-Jones center.
