Recapping Monday’s College Station School Board Discussion Of Changing High School Boundaries

The College Station school board now has six options to adjust boundaries of Consolidated and College Station high schools.

Two more maps were unveiled during a two hour workshop Monday night.

All seven members said they had trouble with moving students who could walk or bike to school, a theme of many of the parents of present or future College Station high school students who opposed moving to Consolidated.

Administrators also told board members the idea of making the dividing line either Rock Prairie Road or the freeway would widen the difference low income students on the two campuses.

There was no discussion of expanding grandfathering to this year’s eighth graders, something asked by almost half of the speakers at last week’s public hearing.

Superintendent Clark Ealy told the board once they narrow options for changing boundaries, administrators will be ready to show the impact of grandfathering as currently recommended to this years ninth and tenth graders.

Then Dr. Ealy said if the board wants, administrators could also come up with the impact of what he called “less restrictive” grandfathering.

The CSISD board will resume deliberations on Thursday, April 19, at 3 p.m. High school boundary changes will not be on the agenda for the April 17th board meeting.
