June 6th marks two years since a semi slammed into a crash scene on Interstate 45 in Leon County, killing one driver and injuring two Centerville volunteer firefighters.

The Centerville volunteer fire department’s Facebook page shared a post from one of the injured firefighters.

Colton Adams, whose left leg was amputated, wrote on his Facebook page that last Tuesday (May 7), the semi driver was sentenced to 50 years for the injuries to Adams and firefighter Clint Franklin. The trucker was also sentenced to two years for criminal negligent homicide in the death of the other driver.

Adams wrote that when he heard the judge say 50 years, it was “affirmation that first responders lives matters” and “it most importantly ensures myself, my family, my fellow first responders and the public” that the semi driver “will never again take another life or limb from a person.”

Adams says the semi driver, who is currently 57 years old, will be approximately 82 before he becomes eligible for parole. Adams says “If that day comes, rest assured I will be standing tall (and) ready to protest (the semi driver’s) release.”

Adams also thanked “everyone who has supported my family and I throughout this difficulty journey.”

Adams says “While this road will continue for the rest of my life, the peace gained from justice being served is a huge step forward to regaining some sense of my new normal.”
