Raven story is curious and done!

One the more bizarre signing day stories got pretty wide spread national media attention yesterday. Louisiana defensive back Floyd Raven says his mom was just trying to help when she filled out and signed his name to a letter of intent and faxed it to the University of Mississippi. Ole Miss people could not read it well enough and contacted Floyd and asked him to re-send it. Problem is Floyd never sent it because he was about to send his letter of intent to Texas A&M, despite his mother’s wishes and indeed efforts to make him a Rebel.

Ole Miss Coach Houston note issued a statement acknowledging that they had not received an authentic Letter from Raven and that they wanted only players who wanted to be there. Late yesterday the compliance people at A&M and Mississippi got together on the phone and agreed that the letter sent to A&M was the proper one to send on to the Big 12 office and the National Letter of Intent Office.

Mike Sherman later issued a statement not addressing the confusion but simply saying “We are very pleased to have Floyd in our program. He has good size for a corner and has excellent coverage skills. In our attacking style of defense, he can be a big asset. We have had some outstanding players from Louisiana and we believe he has a bright future.”
