Raccoon Causes Courthouse Power Outage

The Brazos County courthouse went dark Monday morning due to a power outage caused by a raccoon.

County Judge Duane Peters says during the investigation of fire alarms going off, the raccoon was found in the basement where power lines enter the building.

Power was turned off to remove the animal and to clean the area where it came in contact with electrical lines.

Peters says power could be restored as soon as 10 a.m.

He advises anyone who has courthouse business to call before making the trip. That’s after department heads were initially told employees could leave for the day because it was originally thought it would take longer to restore power.

County Clerk Karen McQueen says her office will be staffed at 10 and they will take care of customers once power is back.
