There is a little magic coming to Bryan-College Station.
Veteran’s Park is hosting the US Quidditch’s Southwest Regional Championship February 18-19th.
Dominique Powell, Director of Bryan College Station Sports + Events, said the sport, made famous from the Harry Potter books, is now played by people all over the world.
“The kids will love it because they’ll think of Harry Potter with people running around on broomsticks, but the fans will love it because of the high energy, there’s some high impact plays out there, there’s a lot going on, it’ll keep you entertained the entire time,” said Powell.
According to Bryan College Station Sports + Events, “Quidditch, a competitive sport played on flying broomsticks made popular in the Harry Potter book series, has been adapted for muggles (non-magic humans), and it’s serious competition. Players run with a broomstick between their legs instead of flying. To score points, players must throw quaffles (slightly deflated volleyballs) into one of three of the opposing team’s hoops, or catch the snitch, a tennis ball inside a sock that is hanging from the shorts of an impartial official.”
Powell says during their initial visit, the US Quidditch was very impressed with the facilities, staff and community leading them to choose B/CS for the tournament.
