Texas A&M’s Ny’Ceara Pryor had 24 points, six assists and five rebounds on 10-of-15 shooting to lead the Aggies to a 77-72 triumph at Bramlage Coliseum versus Kansas State Sunday to remain undefeated.
Along with Pryor, starters Lemyah Hylton and Fatmata Janneh scored 10 points each and Jordan Webster came off the bench and went 3-of-3 from deep for nine points to lead a bench unit that poured in 25 points.
Janneh broke the ice with a 3-pointer with 8:55 left in the opening frame. The Wildcats (3-2) would jump out to a 5-3 lead after that, but Texas A&M (3-0) went on a 7-0 run to take a 10-5 advantage into the first media timeout with 4:07 remaining. After 10 minutes, the Aggies held a 15-13 lead with Janae Kent paving the way with five points in the quarter.
The Maroon & White began the second on fire, making its first five shots to force a Wildcat timeout at the 7:05 mark, 27-18. Texas A&M continued the dominance to end the half and took a 41-28 lead into the locker room. The Aggies shot 73.3% (11-of-15) from the field in the second quarter with Pryor, Hylton and Ware leading the way with 21 points combined on 90.0% shooting (9-of-10).
Despite shooting 58.3% in the third quarter, the Maroon & White saw its cushion shrink as the Wildcats outscored the Aggies 31-21 in the frame. A late triple by Webster helped Texas A&M retain its lead, 62-59, heading into the fourth.
With 4:05 remaining in the game, Kansas State tied the contest at 68-68. However, Pryor corralled a long rebound then took it the distance to give the Aggies the lead back at, 70-68, with 3:03 left. Then, after a couple back-and-forth buckets, Pryor once again came in clutch with a bucket and the foul to give A&M a 74-70 advantage. The Aggies finished off the game with a few stops and took a 77-72 victory to remain undefeated on the year.
The Aggies return to the court Nov. 22-25 at the Northshore Showcase where they will play three games in Laie, Hawaii.
