Protesters Rally Over Dropped Charges

PARIS, Texas (AP) _ Protesters mad over murder charges dropped against two white men accused in the death of a black friend rallied Monday in Paris.

About 150 people demonstrated outside a courthouse, including members of the Nation of Islam and the New Black Panther Party.

Participants complained of what they called a pattern of unequal justice in Paris, about 90 miles northeast of Dallas. They want a Justice Department review of the case.

No one was arrested.

A special prosecutor, citing a lack of evidence, had charges dismissed last week against Shannon Finley and Charles Crostley.

Both were accused in last September’s run-over death of Brandon McClelland after the trio made a beer run to Oklahoma.

A gravel truck driver last month gave a sworn statement acknowledging he might have accidentally run over McClelland.
