Prosecutor Murdered East of Dallas

WTAW News has been notified the Kaufman County assistant district attorney shot and killed Thursday morning, Mark Hasse, was a 1977 graduate of Texas A&M University.

KAUFMAN, Texas (AP) _ An assistant district attorney has been fatally shot as he walked toward his workplace at a North Texas county courthouse.
 
Kaufman County spokeswoman Pat Laney says Mark Hasse was walking across the parking lot behind the courthouse annex Thursday morning when he was shot multiple times.
 
Laney says Hasse was taken away in an ambulance but did not know if he died at the hospital or en route. Laney says Hasse was in his 50s.
 
Investigators are searching for two suspects believed to have fled in a brown or silver older model Ford Taurus.
 
Officials didn’t immediately indicate any motive for the shooting, which occurred just before 9 a.m. about 33 miles southeast of Dallas.
 
Laney said a $10,000 reward is being offered.

KAUFMAN, Texas (AP) _ Authorities say an assistant district attorney has been shot and killed near the North Texas county courthouse where he worked.

The shooting occurred just before 9 a.m. Thursday outside a building across from the main Kaufman County courthouse. Authorities say they are seeking two suspects in the shooting. No motive has been released.

The name of the prosecutor was not immediately announced, pending notification of family.

The courthouse was initially locked down, but that has since been lifted.

At a news conference, local law enforcement officials decried the shooting as an attack on the criminal justice system.
