Brazos County Emergency Services District No. 2, which covers rural areas in north Brazos County, is one of two ESD’s with a proposition on this November’s ballot.
District Two Volunteer Fire Department Chief Joe Boyd says the proposition gives authority to Brazos County ESD No. 2 to collect up to 1.5% sales tax where the rate is not already at the state maximum sales tax rate of 8.25%.
Boyd says funds generated from the increased sales tax would pay for part-time firefighters to work at the station on weekdays, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
“Then we would have people at the station, ready to respond and we could significantly reduce the response time to EMS calls and fire calls,” says Chief Boyd.
Brazos County ESD No. 2 serves the communities of Tabor, Union, Edge, Macey, Wixon Valley and Kurten.
