Texas A&M standout Aaron Pounds earned SEC Golfer of the Week recognition the conference announced Wednesday.
Pounds was honored for his performance in winning the 2nd Swing Gopher Invitational. It marked the first career title for the junior linkster.
The Woodlands, Texas, native shared medalist honors with Iowa State’s Paul Beauvy and South Carolina’s Frankie Harris. The trio penciled in scores of 8-under 205. Pounds fell two strokes back as he neared the turn Monday, but he birdied five of six holes from No. 9-14 to make a late charge. He finished the with a 2-under 69 in the final round.
The inspiring effort by Pounds was the catalyst for the No. 20 Aggies claiming the first-place trophy at the season-opening Gopher Invitational. The victory was the fourth for the Maroon & White in their last eight regular-season tournaments.
