Plans Announced for Camp Kesem Fundraiser

If you know any children whose parents have or have had cancer, A&M students working with Camp Kesem want to bring a little magic to their lives.

In fact, Fundraising Coordinator and camp counselor Chris Hensley says “kesem” is the Hebrew word for “magic.”

Hensley says the one week camp, which takes place in August, is free for the families and completely funded by student volunteers and fundraising events.

He says kids get the chance to really be kids and escape whatever stresses are going on in their home lives as they participate in sports games, outdoor activities, arts and crafts, and just generally have fun.

Hensley says community support is vital to run Camp Kesem, and he and other college students volunteer to raise funds throughout the entire academic year to help put on the camp.

He says they have events on campus and one of the largest events, Make the Magic, will take place this weekend in Houston.

Hensley says Make the Magic is a brunch and silent auction where parents and campers will share their experiences.
