Update:
College Station police report the pedestrian was crossing Texas Avenue 80 yards north of the intersection with University when he was struck, according to College Station police.
From College Station police:
On May 21, 2018, at approximately 2122 hours, officers with the College Station Police Department were dispatched to the intersection of Texas Avenue and University Drive in reference to a reported major accident. Officers arrived on scene and learned the following:
A white Toyota SUV was traveling southbound in the 400 block of Texas Avenue. A male pedestrian was traveling eastbound across Texas Avenue during that time.
As the driver of the Toyota SUV was continuing southbound, the pedestrian walked across Texas Avenue in lanes of traffic and the Toyota struck the male.
Due to the accident, the southbound lanes of Texas Avenue in the 400 block were shut down, and a single lane of northbound Texas in the same area was reduced to one lane of travel while emergency personnel investigated the scene and provided medical aid.
The pedestrian was transported to a local hospital for incapacitating injuries. The pedestrian was later pronounced deceased at the hospital as a result of the injuries sustained. The family of the deceased was contacted and notified of the death.
The driver of the Toyota SUV is cooperating with this investigation and there are no criminal charges pending.
The deceased has been identified as 65 year old Willie Sumrall, Jr. of College Station.
