Passing Of Local Spanish Broadcaster And Former Bryan Councilman Greg Rodriguez

A pioneer broadcaster in Bryan/College Station and former Bryan councilman Greg Rodriguez has died.

That was announced by current Bryan councilman James Edge during Thursday’s (May 15) visit on WTAW’s The Infomaniacs.

Trevino-Smith funeral home, which is in charge of arrangements, posted on its website that Rodriguez hosted the first Spanish radio program on WTAW in 1966. Then in 1991, Rodriguez was part of the ownership group that launched the first local Spanish fulltime radio station.

Rodriguez, who served as a Bryan councilman between 1995 and 2001, was also active in a variety of other community organizations.

A wake and rosary will be held Friday (May 16) at Santa Teresa Catholic Church in Bryan between 5 and 8 p.m. A funeral mass will be held at the church Saturday morning (May 17) at 9 a.m.

Greg Rodriguez was 81 years old.
