Once again, the largest segment of Blinn College’s summertime enrollment is the number of students taking online classes.
More than 6,100 distance learning students were enrolled this summer. That’s an increase of almost 600 compared to last summer.
By comparison, this summer’s headcount at Blinn’s Bryan campus was just over 3,500. That’s down by 775 from a year ago.
Blinn’s home campus in Brenham had 266 students this summer, down from 342 last year.
This was the first summer at Blinn’s RELLIS location, drawing 354 students.
Overall, Blinn’s summertime headcount was up 281 students from last year, at 10,599.

The popularity of affordable and convenient online courses continues to drive summer enrollment for the Blinn College District.
Blinn registered 6,249 students for the Summer I semester, a 1.2% increase over 2018, and 4,473 students for Summer II, a 4.6% increase over the previous year.
To meet the growing demand for online courses, Blinn offered 211 online course sections during Summer I and 140 during Summer II. Blinn students can earn 22 awards and degrees entirely online.
“Modern students enjoy the flexibility of taking online courses and advancing toward a degree while still spending time at home, traveling, or working,” said Dr. Marcelo Bussiki, Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs. “Each online course offers full credit and transferability, and online students have access to the full range of support services that make Blinn an academic leader.”
For the Summer I term, 3,534 students registered for online courses, a 7.5% increase. Blinn registered 2,161 students on the Bryan Campus, 194 at the RELLIS Campus, and 126 at the Health Science Center.
Summer I enrollment also included 98 students at the Brenham Campus, 62 high school students enrolled in dual credit, and 18 students apiece at the Schulenburg and Sealy campuses.
Blinn totaled 468,672 Summer I contact hours, a 0.9% increase over 2018. Contact hours, the time during which a student receives active instruction, comprise a portion of the state’s funding formula.
For the Summer II term, Blinn again saw significant growth in its online courses, as 2,653 students registered, a 17.2% increase over 2018. Blinn also enrolled 1,384 students at the Bryan Campus, 175 at the Brenham Campus, and 158 at the RELLIS Campus.
Blinn enrolled 41 Summer II students at the Health Science Center, 34 in high school dual credit courses, 18 at the Sealy Campus, and 10 at the Schulenburg Campus.
Blinn totaled 308,432 Summer II contact hours, a 6.4% increase over last year.
Blinn’s Fall semester begins Monday, Aug. 26, and registration is available through Tuesday, Aug. 27.
